What is Jiu Jitsu Competition Class?
We’ve been getting some funny questions lately about our weekly Jiu Jitsu Competition Class on Fridays here at Airlock Jiu Jitsu in Bastrop, so we figured now would be the perfect time to share more information on that fantastic class! Let’s talk about Competition Class.
Who can come to Jiu Jitsu Competition Class at Airlock?
ALL of our members! Yes, you! While Competition Class has a focus on the concepts and some of the rules and positions that matter in a competition environment, you do not have to be a competitor or planning to compete in order to attend this class. The drills we practice apply to literally anyone who practices jiu jitsu, and you are in no way required to be in training for an upcoming comp or even have plans to compete in the near future. We want you to get the benefit of this class.
So what do you do in Competition Class then?
Airlock’s idea behind competition class is to provide a higher-paced class focused on active, live drilling. There’s less direct instruction and far more positional drilling, which means starting in specific positions (ie mount, back control, guard) and working with lots of partners to advance or escape that position. During other classes, we don’t spend as much time working these positional drills, which makes this class extremely valuable to advancing your skills.
Is Competition Class harder than other classes?
Yes. Kind of. Well, depends on what you call “hard”. The class itself is certainly high-pace, which means you oughta be sweating if we do our job right. There is definitely an element of conditional training to be had from a good competition class. That said, as at every Airlock class, we’re all partners on these mats trying to get better as a team, so comp classes are NOT a free for all murder-fest. We’re here to get better together!
So let’s get together at Jiu Jitsu Competition Class on Fridays aka let’s Make Competition Class Great Again. Check the schedule and be there!
