If you’re looking for kids jiu jitsu in Bastrop TX, you’re in the right place.
At 10th Planet Airlock, our youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program helps kids build confidence, discipline, kindness, and real self-defense skills. All while having an incredible amount of fun.
Our kids classes are designed to create a positive and supportive environment where students grow both on and off the mats. Parents throughout Bastrop choose 10th Planet Airlock because we focus on developing strong character, teamwork, and resilience through martial arts training.
We offer two age groups so every student can train with peers at the right developmental level.
Our Tiny Astronauts program is designed specifically for younger children ages 5–8 who are beginning their martial arts journey.
Training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu at a young age can have a remarkable effect on a child’s development. Kids build coordination, focus, confidence, and social skills while learning the foundations of a martial art that actually works.
Great kids martial arts classes must be three things, in this order:
Many parents are surprised to discover that the goal isn’t to create aggressive kids. In fact, it’s the opposite. When children learn a martial art that actually works, they gain the confidence to handle life’s challenges without needing violence.
Tiny Astronauts Classes (Ages 5-8):
Monday & Wednesday @ 4:30 PM
Our Lil’ Astronauts program is for students ages 8-11 who are ready to deepen their skills in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.
At this stage, kids begin developing more advanced techniques, stronger problem-solving abilities, and a deeper understanding of the strategy behind Jiu Jitsu.
Students in this program learn:
Many students also discover a passion for competition, though competing is always optional. Whether a student wants to compete or simply train for fun and personal growth, our coaches support them every step of the way.
Lil’ Astronauts Classes (Ages 8-11):
Tuesday & Thursday @ 4:30
Flight Crew is our program for pre-teens and teens, ages 11 to 16. It’s the newest of our three kids programs and it exists because older kids need something the younger classes can’t give them.
An eleven-year-old in a room full of seven-year-olds is in a strange spot. They’re bigger, they’re stronger, and every round comes with a little voice reminding them to be careful. Flight Crew puts them with kids their own size, which changes what’s possible on the mat. Live training gets real. Technique goes deeper. A pre-teen can go find out what works against somebody who’s also figuring it out.
The material gets more technical too. Younger classes build the foundation through games and repetition. Flight Crew builds systems: how one position connects to the next, why a setup works, what to do when the first thing fails. It’s closer to how adults train, scaled for bodies and attention spans that are still developing.
This is also the age where kids start deciding for themselves whether they like something. We lean into that. Flight Crew gives them room to be good at a hard thing on their own terms, at exactly the age when most kids quit everything.

The age bands overlap at 8 and again at 11, and that’s on purpose, because age by itself is a rough guide. An eight-year-old might belong in either class. So might an eleven-year-old. Instead of guessing from a chart, we ask you a few questions: has your kid done anything like this before, how do they play with other kids, how do they handle getting bumped around, and how do they match up physically against kids their own age.
Then we recommend a class and you come try it. Sometimes a kid tries two before it’s obvious which one fits, and that’s a normal way to land in the right room. We’d rather spend a couple of weeks getting it right than put your kid somewhere they’re going to feel out of place.
We run two competition classes on Fridays, one for ages 5 to 11 and one for Flight Crew. Both are by invitation.
Here’s how a kid gets invited:
At around 16, the path widens instead of ending.
A sixteen-year-old can keep training in Flight Crew and start coming to adult classes too, because the two give them different things. Flight Crew is where they’ve got years of history, teammates their own age, and a room where they’re one of the experienced ones. Adult class is where they find out how their jiu jitsu holds up against grown men and women, which is a useful thing for a sixteen-year-old to learn in a controlled room with coaches watching.
So they do both for a while. No graduation day, no handoff, no week where they show up and their old class is gone. They just start adding nights.
Parents throughout Bastrop trust 10th Planet Airlock because our kids martial arts program focuses on developing the whole person, not just teaching techniques or aggression.
Through kids jiu jitsu training, students develop:
Most importantly, they become part of a community that supports their growth.
Our school prides itself on maintaining a welcoming environment where kids feel safe, encouraged, and excited to learn. That said, we have rigorous standards for kids in our program. Good behavior in class is crucial as it’s a component of everyone’s safety in the martial arts.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is widely considered one of the most effective martial arts in the world for real-world self defense.
Unlike many martial arts that rely on strength or striking, Jiu Jitsu teaches kids how to use leverage, balance, and technique to control situations safely.
This gives students a powerful sense of confidence that extends far beyond the mats into school, friendships, and everyday life.
If you’re looking for kids martial arts in Bastrop that build confidence, character, and real skills, we’d love to welcome your family to 10th Planet Airlock.
Whether your child is 5 years old and just getting started or older and ready for more advanced training, our youth Brazilian Jiu Jitsu program offers a structured and supportive path for growth.
