Cheers to the Second BEST in Bastrop
We did it! And it’s all thanks to your help. Airlock Jiu Jitsu was voted second best AKA runner up in the Bastrop BEST Contest, and honestly, we are super proud to be right where we are! After just a short time being around and launching our journey here in Bastrop, we are happy to be able to hang up a banner of our own over here at Airlock Jiu Jitsu that means so much all over Bastrop County. So in honor of our runner up status, we figured we should celebrate like there’s no tomorrow. Here’s to being the second BEST in Bastrop! (Yes, we know we’re always #1 in your hearts, but truly, this was a long shot and we’re so pleased.)
A Happy Bunch of Runner-Ups.
Pepsi. Buzz Aldrin. K2. Canada. Helium. John Adams. A straight flush. The B Team. Dr Watson. Honestly, we’re in good company. Actually, we often identify with second place as a no gi jiu jitsu gym. Gi jiu jitsu would be considered the original style, and the emergence of no gi jiu jitsu, without the traditional kimono, is relatively new on the jiu jitsu scene. The cool part is that we happen to live in the Austin area, a place that many consider to be the renaissance location of no gi jiu jitsu! Just try to convince yourself that Austin is 2nd best to anything. It ain’t! And neither is the no gi jiu jitsu scene around here.
Flying Under the Radar
Let’s face it, #1 is a LOT of pressure. We just enjoy doing jiu jitsu in Bastrop, you know? It’s literally the most enjoyable thing that all of us get to do. We make friends, we fight those friends, we sweat on our friends, we learn dope skills with our friends. And every day is just a great day when you live like that. There’s no doubt our jiu jitsu is legit with the coaches we’re rocking with, it’s just, like, can’t we keep this thing fun? As Dale Earnheart said, “Second place is just the first place loser.” Well said, Dale. We’re first place in losing, and first place in your hearts!
Nowhere To Go But Up
Guys, could you imagine if we had actually won?? Good lord, imagine the expectations next time around! We’ve got nowhere else to go now but UP! It’s nice to be the underdog, we just hang out and wait for our moment. You know, it’s like that kid that peaked in high school, that’s no good; it’s too early! As Dennis Reynolds once said, “I haven’t even begun to peak.”
So from the Second BEST martial arts gym in Bastrop to you, THANK YOU for your votes and your love!
