10th Planet Black Belt Rei Villa – Airlock Jiu Jitsu in Bastrop
It’s time to celebrate… Airlock Jiu Jitsu Owner & Head Instructor Rei Villa received his 10th Planet Black Belt, honoring his years of commitment to the 10th Planet system and no gi jiu jitsu. And we couldn’t be happier for him! Here’s what you need to know about the honor of receiving a Black Belt from 10th Planet and what it means here at Airlock Jiu Jitsu in Bastrop.
In 2020, Rei received his black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu from John Ramseier of John’s Gym ATX and LEAD BJJ. Rei’s journey of jiu jitsu began back in 2013. Receiving his black belt was the culmination of Rei’s years of dedication to the sport. After training primarily in the gi and earning his black belt, Coach Rei sought out the challenge of learning no gi jiu jitsu, the form of jiu jitsu that he has dedicated himself and Airlock Jiu Jitsu to training.
Rei’s training led him to 10th Planet Austin, where he developed his no gi game and learned the unique aspects of the 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu system, an approach developed by Eddie Bravo. After years of training almost exclusively no gi, Rei proudly received his 10th Planet Black Belt under Curtis Hembroff of 10th Planet Austin.
So what does a 10th Planet Black Belt mean?
To put it simply, it means that Coach Rei meets the high standards of 10th Planet and brings that knowledge and experience to everyone here at Airlock Jiu Jitsu in Bastrop, TX.
At Airlock, we’ve been fast friends with the 10P Austin crew since our founding and they’ve welcomed us to cross train with them many times. Now with Coach Rei a proud and official part of the growing 10th Planet scene, we’re glad to be even more connected with our 10th Planet friends all across the world, all of whom are welcome to cross train at Airlock in Bastrop anytime as our guests (yes, that means free).
We’re thrilled for Rei and quite proud that Airlock now shares a connection with the 10th Planet system that we’ve been friends with for so long. Congratulations Rei!
