An Airlock Jiu Jitsu Thanksgiving
Who doesn’t love Thanksgiving? It’s got all the best things in one place: Food, Family, and if you’re anything like us, Fighting. After all, when your drunk uncle says that ‘karate stuff’ you do is dumb, maybe it’s time to show him how knee-on-belly feels, right? Kidding, we don’t advocate violence to the haters (wink). But for real, at Airlock Jiu Jitsu, we’ve got so dang much to be thankful for this year, so we thought we’d share with you all the things that make us get all teary-eyed.
1. Our Incredible Members
Need we really say more? What is Airlock without the folks who have believed in us from the moment we opened our doors? You are all a pleasure to coach, teach, learn with, compete with, and fight with on a daily basis. We feel bad for people that have to drag themselves to their jiu jitsu gym every day because that’s not a feeling we’ve ever had, and it’s because of all of you! We’ve seen people go from absolute grappling beginners to undeniable killers on the mats. We’ve seen our kids go from clueless bundles of energy to knowledgeable bundles of energy. And the best part is we’ve all done it together.
2. The Sport of Jiu Jitsu (and the invention of no gi)
You guys, what if BJJ had never been invented?? What if people were just peaceful and there was no need to learn how to defend yourself? Gross. It’s so much more fun to learn how to fight. And, even better news, we no longer have to wear the gi! A fact we’re incredibly thankful for. Instead we get to wear our sick Airlock rash guards and look like straight up superheroes.
3. The City of Bastrop (and our Austin friends)
What a great town we live in. Airlock Jiu Jitsu quite simply loves Bastrop, TX. We’ve seen so much growth and energy coming to this town, we’ve been supported by our Chamber of Commerce and tons of local businesses have helped us get our start. We love having our little place outside busy Austin, complimented by those insanely great weekend Open Mats with our friends at their gyms all over Austin. We’re grateful for Bastrop in a major way.
We hope you all have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your loved ones. A reminder that we will not have classes this week Wed-Fri, so that we can really focus on bulking season and eating as much food as possible. However, we hope to see you Saturday at 10am for a little Thanksgiving Weekend Open Mat action.
