Women’s BJJ: Highlighting Women’s Jiu Jitsu with American Jiujiteira
Here at Airlock Jiu Jitsu, we’ve always had a strong commitment to promoting women participating and growing in the sport of jiu jitsu. It’s why we made sure that from the moment we opened, we had a women’s-only jiu jitsu basics class every week – Fridays at 6:45pm with Coach Andrea. But Coach Andrea isn’t just an excellent teacher, she’s also been quietly creating the definitive documentary of women’s jiu jitsu in America over the last 2 years. And this week, the women’s BJJ documentary that you have to see will be released: American Jiujiteira – proudly premiering right here at Airlock Jiu Jitsu.
American Jiujiteira is the story of women’s jiu jitsu in America. Featuring world champions and everyday hobbyists, Andrea tells the story of her start in jiu jitsu with all the ups and downs in plain sight for everyone to share. The challenge of jiu jitsu for women and men is often quite different, and this documentary shows the story in a way that simply hasn’t been shown before.
At Airlock, we believe that everyone can benefit from incorporating jiu jitsu in their lives. But we feel particularly strongly that women can see life-changing effects when training jiu jitsu. In fact, Andrea’s documentary actually features a massive survey of women who train jiu jitsu with some real statistics to prove it! We’ve written before about some things we want women to know when starting BJJ as well.
But we can’t tell the story the same way as a woman in jiu jitsu can – and that’s why we’re so excited to be premiering the documentary American Jiujiteira right here at Airlock Jiu Jitsu! Everyone is welcome to attend, it’s going to be one heck of a party.
Saturday, October 21 at 7:30 CT – please arrive early and bring some food for yourself or to share! If you can’t make it to the party, American Jiujiteira is being released LIVE on YouTube – you can catch the premiere live from anywhere or watch for free anytime after the release.
